Final Reflection

While creating this blog, we could learn how different yet beautiful in its very own ways cultures can be. When we started our research about Thailand, we couldn’t help to be fascinated by the way the greetings are done in comparison to how they’re done in Colombia. As it is obvious, every country have backgrounds of every kind, and we find really amusing to be able to study the way it manifests and shows in society; I mean, as we are not really interested in oriental culture, we didn´t know much about this, but nowadays our vision of things have changed. Greetings are someting we live with, there’s nothing to us like a handshake or a hug with our closests ones! But as we have learn, at other places, these types of interactions are inaceptable unless it’s with a really close relative.

 We really think this blog helped us out on the propper understanding of this whole different place, sharing our previous thoughts about the topic, we noticed that we didn’t know o didn’t care about some things that really matter. Learning how other cultures behave helps to build social knowledgment, even if it is just the two of us doing this study, that’s ok, we are just as important in this. 

Another important thing to mention, is that thanks to this work we noticed that every time you want to travel overseas you should know the culture of your destination, so you can avoid as misunderstandings as posible. By this we mean that for tourists this is a must! You don’t want to disrespect anybody.

The thing we liked the most about the process of investigating was, indeed, the fact that we got to learn new things. It gave us differents points of view and perspective, which is really important. We are really excited to share this new information we’ve learn with acquaintances, friends and family!! Even more because just like us, people may not know about this huge existent contrast between our two cultures.

Non-verbal communication in Thailand

 Thailand and Colombia have different ways of Non-verbal communication. We can find a lot of differences but overall with have to understand that in Thai culture people keeps physic distance while in our culture physical touch is essential. Thai non-verbal communication is emphasized in showing respect and politeness. One example of the non-verbal communication of the Thai people is the traditional Thai greeting known as the "Wai" which consists in a slight bow with hands pressed together in a prayer like-position. This is different from the way we do it in Colombia, here hugs, kisses on the cheek, and handshakes are the most common ways to greet. Keeping the eye contact is also considered respectful in Thailand, the same as Colombia, where keeping the eye contact is essential for people to feel heard.
